Former Brenham Runner Hit By Car - Fighting For His Life

This weekend, Brenham graduate Matthew Spahn was in a devastating accident.  Late Saturday night/early Sunday morning, the 2015 graduate was walking when he was struck by a car. Spahn suffered two broken legs as well as the entire left side of his face is broken.

Trenton Hall, Brenham head coach describes Spahn as a scrappy runner who never backed down from a challenge. "Matt is in a fight for his life," said Hall. "His body is broken, but if you know Matt, his heart is still strong. Matt needs your prayers today."

Spahn began running at Brenham while in middle school. When he entered high school, he made an immediate impact and was motivated to to defeat the perception of his size. In his time, he was described as a great teammate for six years and continued in athletics as he ran at Pratt Community College (Ks).

His condition and chances of survival has been described as 50/50 survival. Hall said, "Whatever the outcome, Matt is in God's hands. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior this spring. Your prayers are appreciated. Matt needs your prayers today, as do the doctors who are working to save his life. His family can also use financial help to handle the medical bills they are facing."

The Spahn family has a gofundme page set up for those interested in donating.
