W2W4: What To Watch For At Region 3 In Each Classification

Region 3-1A

Class 1A in this region could possibly have the top teams and individuals in the state on both sides. Head lining the girls race will be the defending UIL 1A state champ Jorja Bessonett and the runner-up Sienna Collins.

Bessonett has had a shortened season due to an injury that required her to get a delayed start. She is working on getting her fitness level up and into shape as the days progress, but she may not be in shape to defend her individual title. Collins has several state championships as she won state in cross country in both her freshman and sophomore years including a sweep of the distance on the track in 2017 with her wins in the 800m, 1600m, and the 3200m. She will be looking to get back on the top of the 1A totem pole as a senior. Don't over look Lipan 's duo of Maggie Peacock and Kaylee Little as they will contend as well.

Team wise it will be Bessonett's Miller Grove squad looking to improve on their second place performance from their second place finish at last year's state championships. They will get challenged by Collins' Saltillo squad and Peacock's and Little's Lipan group.

With the boys, it should be more Miller Grove and Saltillo.

Miller Grove's Isaiah Billingsley is the fastest freshman in the country and will be the top boys seed with his 15:43.08 top mark.

He will look to help lead his team who is fresh off of last year's state title that they were able to win without him. They are stacked and could potentially put their top five scoring runners in the top ten. Their challenge will come from Saltillo and Priddy, but all signs point to a Miller Grove dominating performance.
