Ten Burning Questions Heading Into The UIL State Meet

Who Will Win The 5A Boys Championship

Lucas Lovejoy has won the last two UIL 5A boys team championships. It looks like they might be a better team this year than they were in those back to back wins.

The only thing is, so is the entire 5A classification.

El Paso Eastwood looks like they might not only be the best team in 5A, but they might just be the best team in Texas altogether. This team is unbelievable as they can run fast and they can run tight. Both their team average and their team split are amongst the best in the state and they just might need to be considered nationally.

However, Lovejoy isn't the only 5A team from last year that Eastwood will have to deal with. Both of the other two podium teams (Grapevine and Cedar Park) have aspirations of winning a state title as well. They are both well aware of Lovejoy and Eastwood and they don't have plans to run in Round Rock for recreation.

Frisco Wakeland is also very dangerous. In a year where it seems like there aren't enough trophies to tell the story of the amount of quality 5A teams, overlooking Wakeland could be a costly thing to do. They have been state contenders for years and they are capable of getting a trophy.

Perhaps, the most overlooked team in 5A is Austin LBJ. For the last two years, LBJ has been showing up and doing their thing. They have had a good runner in Cameron Kleiman and then he morphed into one of the best in the state. He brought along his classmate Yaseen Abdalla who totally exploded into a stud this year. On top of that, so has fellow senior Charles Albach. The team is led by these three seniors who have nothing to lose but to go for the gusto in their last meet in an LBJ uniform and when nobody is really expecting them to do damage.

So, there you have it, the UIL 5A boys team championship scenario. Who do you choose as your favorite? It just might be the last race of the day for good reason.
