JT Herrscher Looking For A Repeat SPC Pole Vault State Title

JT (Jacob) Herrscher won the 2018 SPC pole vault championship last year during his junior season. While that was a great way to end the season, his 2019 has been a memorable all season long right from the beginning.

The Greenhill Schooll senior has been on fire since the first outdoor meet of the season. He has been just about unbeatable with his only loss coming with a runner-up finish at the Texas Relays due to more misses than the US No. 1 ranked vaulter and future college teammate Max Manson.

Herrscher is currently the top ranked vaulter in Texas and ranked #3 nationally with a 17-0 PR. That sets him up as the favorite heading into this weekend and likely to win his second straight SPC pole vault championship.

The 15-4 SPC pole vault record is also up for grabs this weekend. Herrscher has only not jumped that height in two meets this year. Along with his rhythm in the pole vault this year, he has also racked up PRs in long jump, 110H, and the 200m.

This season has also been big for Herrscher outside of the track and off of the field. In March, he ended his college recruitment. The process had included visits to some outstanding academic and athletic universities, but he was finally able to bring closure to that process. In the end, he was able to enthusiastically decide on the school he has long admired and wanted an offer from. He got the offer he wanted from Stanford University, adding to a dream season.

The only left to do is put a bow on his senior year. He can do that this weekend by adding another win at the state meet and doing it with a record jump would make things even better.
