SPC Athletes Who Will Shake Up The State Championships

Adoette Vaughan

This will be the end of an era for Hockaday mega star Vaughan. She has been a champion of all champions over her four year career. She has won individual state championships in a plethora of events.

Vaughan has been more than elite at the SPC level and the Texas state level, she reached the national level with an 11th place finish at Foot Locker.

In the Fall, she won her fourth straight XC individual title and now looks to close out her SPC and high school career in a big way.

Esohe Asuen

The Houston Christian senior is going for her third straight high jump state championship. Thing wont be easy as a Greenhill duo will be looking to get a win themselves.

Asuen has a SB 5-4, but has PR of 5-6 from last year and she has the ability to capture number three this weekend.

Jalen Elrod

The Houston Kinkaid sprinter heads into this weekend at the top SPC runner at both the 200m (25.64)and the 400m (57.03). The sophomore helps lead her squad with hopes to win the state meet and her contributions will be huge.

Justice Coutee-McCullum

Like Vaughan, her Greenhill teammate Coutee-McCullum has more SPC state medals than a little bit. However, she has only on individual state championship, that win came in the 2017 100 hurdles. She has several tries in the 100m and 200m, but has only been able to come up with a couple of runner-up finishes and third place finishes.

This year, she comes in as the favorite in both events with her SB performances of 11.89w and 13.86w.

Kat Kwiatkowski

Kwiatkowski will  be one of the youngsters who will battle to be the heir to Vaughan's throne. The Episcopal freshman has already shown she can run with her third place finish at the SPC state cross country meet.

Expect Kwiatkowski to make this weekend one of the toughest SPC state meet challenges for Vaughan beginning with the 3200m.

However, it's not just the long distance races to watch out for her. Her 1600m (5:14.23) 800m (2:12.98), and 400m (59.60) PRs that show she will be a threat all weekend long in both the long and shorter distance races.

Kevrianna Scott

Kinkaid has a young star of their own who will battle for Vaughan's throne. This fearless freshman can also run with the best of them.

She is also a rangy runner who can cover distances from the 800m to the 5K with her PRs of 2:21.86, 5:08, and 11:18.60.
