In the history of the UIL, there have been repeat champions, three peat champions, and even four-time state champions in certain events.
Specifically for individual events, there have been teams who have been dominant in a certain event. Qualifying more than one individual from one team to the state meet isn't the easiest thing to do. Well, how about qualifying three individuals from one team to the state meet? Yes, it is even less likely.
When it does happen, the chances of all three of those individuals medaling are slim. It has never happened in the history of the UIL state track and field meet.
It has never happened in girls championship history until now. Refugio did it. They qualified three long jumpers to the UIL 2A girls state meet and those young ladies did what had never been done before.
Long jumpers Alexa Valenzuela, Tracelyn Ross, Jailin King combined their efforts to do the unthinkable....sweep an event at the UIL state track and field meet.
Valenzuela won the event with an 18-3.75 jump led the attack for Refugio. Her experience and ability to stay calm throughout the competition and the entire day allowed her teammates to feed off of her as the trio went on to dazzle the crowd at the long jump competition.

King, a sophomore, her 18-0.25 was enough to earn the silver medal, in which she won the state title in last year. Junior, Ross sealed the deal and captured the bronze medal by edging out third place by .25 with her 17-01.25 jump.
We may never see this happen again and if we do, who knows how long will it be. One thing is for sure, we witnessed something unbelievable and unlikely and it will never be forgotten.
