Jorja Bessonett is a shark! Her bait....the UIL 1A state record. She took the lead at 75m and didn't look back. She hunted the old record stride by stride and meter by meter until in the end she took it down and inserted her own name and time in the record book.

The Miller Grove sophomore was out to recover what injury didn't allow her to retain in the fall and she was able to do that and more.

Spur sophomore Jorden Zarate  took out to a big early lead and it looked like the field was going to totally let him run away with things.

However, Miller Grove fabulous freshman Isaiah Billingsley had a completely different plan for the outcome. Billingsley gradually cut into Zarate's lead until it was a two man race for the last 1200m and even took the lead. On the final lap, it looked as if Billingsley had himself a state title heading into the last 100m. But, Zarate wasn't done yet as he had one last push left for a kick to out lean Billingsley for the win  9:49.20 to 9:49.45.

Covington's Klay Howard also finished strong in third and almost caught both the front runners in the end as he finished in 4:50.42.

2A Boys

The 2A boys 3200m had some very tough and talented runners in the field and Abraham Morales knew it. Morales took control of the race and made it his for about a mile. When the rest of the field came, he stayed tough and kept up with them.

However, some of those tough and talented buys soon took over. Sundown's Mr. Do It All senior Steven Quintanilla wanted to add another state title to his story book career and he soon moved to the front pack. Parker Jones of Milano was also determined to add a state title before he exited high school for college. In the end, it was Quintanilla and Jones racing for the title and they did it in grand fashion with a negative last mile split and an incredible 61 second last 400m. Jones was able to out kick Quintanilla for the win 9:42.13 to 9:42.73.
