Sanaa Barnes Wins Pan-Am U20 Women's High Jump

Northwest Nelson graduate and current Villanova University sophomore Sanaa Barnes won the Women's High Jump at the Pan American U20s Championships last night in San José, Costa Rica.

Barnes just completed her freshman season on the NCAA level where she finished fourth at the indoor national meet and sixth outdoors.

Last night's win came on the cusp of a 1.83m (6.0.5), which tied her second best all-time mark from the NCAA Indoor Championships.

After a couple of misses at the latter heights, Barnes' victory was possibly boiled down to experience. Along with her collegiate and UIL state meet experience, this was not her first international competition.

Last year, she finished second at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships when she jumped her 6-0.75 PR and then finished eighth with a 5-11.75 at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships.

The Villanova two sport star will return to campus in time for volleyball season with a gold medal and world title to boast.
