2019 5A Girls Preseason Rankings
Editor's Comments
Frisco Wakeland returns a good and young team. However, Boerne Champion and Cedar Park were lurking last year. They could both make a push for the top spot this year. Amarillo looks strong with who they return from 2018. Add them with the Perennial teams near the top of the classification like Grapevine, Highland Park and Dripping Spring the 5A class will be a good one to watch.
RANK | TEAM | LAST RESULT | COMMENTS |
---|---|---|---|
1 N/R | Cedar Park finished 3rd last year at the state meet. They graduated two major seniors and lost their leader and coach Greenier. However, Greenier left the stable full for coach Edwards. Cedar Park will be led by Gracie Hall and Kaitlyn Childress. | ||
2 N/R | Amarillo finished fifth last year at state. They only graduated one senior from their outstanding group and will be a force to reckon again this year. | ||
3 N/R | Frisco Wakeland won state last year. They graduated their leader Isabella West and that could be a 40 second swing in team performance. However, they return sophomore Chloe Smith who was 10th last year as a freshman. If they can make up on the back end what they lost on the front end Wakeland could win it all again. We'll see. | ||
4 N/R | Grapevine was 6th last year at state and they graduated two seniors, but they have stud sophomores Rachel Sutliff who will challenge for an individual title and Caroline Burrow to lead them. | ||
5 N/R | Highland Park was 4th at last year's state meet. They only graduated one senior, which is easy for a program like this one to fill the void. Sophia Oliai is a stud and will look to lead them to a trophy this year. | ||
6 N/R | Dripping Springs was 10th last season and they return all but one. They have strong leading runners like Marleena Mickel and Karsten Bobb to lead the way. | ||
7 N/R | Boerne Champion had a great season last year. Finishing second is a pretty good indication of that. They only graduated one from that group, but that was enough to be a huge difference maker. If their 5-7 can close the gap, Champion could be champions this year. | ||
8 N/R | Reedy is led by Colleen Stegmann who could very well win the individual title this year. However, coach Watts has some more girls and you better watch out. This team will be dangerous this year. | ||
9 N/R | Everybody knows about London Culbreath, but McKinney North has a supporting cast that could make this a memorable year. | ||
10 N/R | Friendswood was 13th at state last season. They graduated one and they return a young squad. | ||
11 N/R | Sharyland had a good squad last year and their strength was how they run in a tight pack. Region 4 was is joke, so, it'll take some serious running for them to get to state. Dont' overlook these RGV girls. | ||
12 N/R | Led by Felisa Saheib | ||
13 N/R | Lovejoy had a good year last season and they look to capitalize in 2019. They are led by Amelia Carothers. | ||
14 N/R | Midlothain was 12th at state last year. They are definitely on the rise and are led by Keila Finnestad | ||
15 N/R | Burleson Centennial has a squad and I believe we will see a better 2019 from them. They are led by their star Harli Woolsey. | ||
16 N/R | East View is led by the talented Mia Rowe. | ||
17 N/R | Liberty has been a top 5A team for years and they have their leader Amelia Jauregui for one more year. They were 9th last year at the state meet after winning it all in 2017. | ||
18 N/R | The Eastwood girls showed that their program is more than just the boys. They qualifided for state last year and finished in 11th place. They are led by Lauren Walls. | ||
19 N/R | Georgetown is led by junior state meet individual qualifier Avery Hill. | ||
20 N/R | Northwest Nelson has a solid program. They are led by senior leader Cassidy Teuscher. | ||
21 N/R | Marble Falls is a solid team. They return some good girls who could challenge for a state meet berth. They are led by Bailey Goggans. | ||
22 N/R | Edcouch-Elsa was 14th at last year's state meet. They only graduated one girl from the top 7. They'll be led by Haley Villalpando. | ||
23 N/R | Canyon Randall did not qualify for state last year as a team. The last time that happened was 2007. Daphne Pate graduated and coach James' squad now belongs to individual state meet qualifier Harley Albert and a bunch of hungry youngsters. | ||
24 N/R | Led by Sophia Muñoz | ||
25 N/R | Boswell was 15th at state last year and they graduated three seniors. They do still have 11th place individual finisher Andrea Acuna. |
