ADDISON , Texas (July 30) – Abilene Christian and Midwestern State are the favorites to capture the 2009 Lone Star Conference men's and women's cross country championships, respectively, according to the league's preseason poll announced on Thursday.
The Wildcats received all 24 first-place votes for a total of 216 points in the men's poll, while the Mustangs were the top choice on 22 of 31 ballots for 356 points on the women's side.
In 2008, ACU's men won their 18th consecutive conference crown, while the MSU women claimed its first title in school history. The ACU women were picked to finish third in the conference championship race.
Nine men's teams and 12 women's teams start their season in September, while the postseason begins with the LSC Championships hosted by West Texas A&M, on October 24, 2009.
