Nike South Invitational Meet Preview And Info Guide

The Nike South Invitational is always one of the biggest mid season meets of the year. It attracts team from all over the state and this year will be no different.

Houston area teams will fill the starting line, but teams from South Texas like Mission and teams from West Texas like Clint Mount View, El Paso Americas, and El Paso Pebble Hills will bring some out of town flavor.

The meet will also have teams from several different Texas Leagues like SPC, TAPPS, and the UIL.

Girls Varsity Races

In the girls varsity races, the team battles will be good and very close. Teams contending for the meet win will include, but not limited to several teams who are mainstays at the UIL state meet. Top ranked teams like Kingwood, The Woodlands, The Woodlands College Park, Bridgeland, Katy Tompkins, Clear Falls, El Paso Americas, and Magnolia West.

Individually, several girls who could run in this race have already solidified themselves as some of the best in the state as well as some national caliber athletes. Heidi Nielson, Avery Clover, Madeline Orr, and Sophie Atkinson have raced at high levels all season long. Also having great seasons are Peyton McQuillanAddison StevensonMariana GuzmanEllie CatronEmma Ellis, and Hannah Gault and all of these young ladies will be running this weekend at Nike South.

Boys Varsity Races

The Nike South Invitational is hosted by The Woodlands boys and that means you always have to be aware of the Highlanders as a team and individually and this year is no different. If, they run their top seven runners, they will not doubt make their presence felt. Also coming to Houston to compete is El Paso Americas. They qualified for the UIL 6A state meet as a team last year and has just as good of a team this year. The Woodlands College Park and Katy Tompkins both are teams who are used to being at the state meet and have very good teams this year.

The boys individual race could be very deep this weekend. Again, the Highlanders could have seven to ten guys pushing the pace of this race if they run their top team. Heading that group would be All-State runners Ryan Cardinal and Ethan Hammer. The same could be said for Americas, they aren't making the long trip for nothing. Their top five runners are all also capable of front running and maybe even winning the individual race. Both guys had fantastic races last weekend in Arizona. Ben Shearer has developed in the type of cross runner he displayed last track season. Another All-Stater from last year coming from the DFW area Grant Wilcox can straight up roll and will be included in the front pack as will be Nick Majerus. Also having great seasons are Nicklaus BrawnerBen BlackKalen Barlow, and Eric Pineda and will be in the races this weekend.
