St. Agnes Is Scorching The Path To A Possible TAPPS Repeat

The girls from Houston St. Agnes are now officially on the championship season road to defend their 2018 cross country by attempting to add the 2019 TAPPS 6A state championship.

Last week, they put on a clinic at the TAPPS 4-6A championship meet. St. Agnes nearly ran to a perfect 15 point score. However, they were narrowly prevented from doing so by the missing the fifth place finish in the race. Instead, they finished with the sixth place finish and a just as respectable 16 total point total.

Still, this shows how prepared, focused, and determined St. Agnes appears to be. Not only did their scoring runners hit big during the race, but the rest of their girls ran outstanding races as well. They also went for the 8th, 9th, 12th, 13th, and 14th place finishes.

St. Agnes was led by Amelie Born's 11:57, Emily Heinz' 12:03, Camille Napier's 12:04, and Leah Jordan's 12:10 to take the top four finishes.

While still a couple of weeks away, St. Agnes is trying to win another state title and they are moving in the right direction. Coach Robbins' squad is doing exactly what they did last season in the championship race.

To win the 2018 team title, they ran a 12:31 team average with only a 40 second 1 - 5 split.

Last week's race was similar, but it was even better than the state meet performance. On Thursday, the girls went for a 12:05 team average with a 14 second split.

There is no guarantee that St. Agnes will win the TAPPS 6A title once again. They have several formidable opponents like Dallas Ursuline Academy, San Antonio Antonian, Concordia Lutheran, and Houston Incarnate Word, but this shows that they are on the right track to repeat.
