Jayla Hollis Commits To Arkansas - 'Feels Like Home'

Class of 2020 hurdler/sprinter Jayla Hollis committed to the University of Arkansas this afternoon. The senior had a very impressive list of schools to select from. Making her final list of five, Hollis was deciding between Arkansas, Oregon, Texas, Arizona State, and Miami.

"It felt like home, It felt like everyone there was a family and they just bonded together," the DeSoto High School All-American said.

As far as athletics, Hollis was keeping an eye on to aspects. She isn't just a hurdler, she is also a top notch sprinter.

Last spring and summer, Hollis had success individually in the 200m. She won the Texas UIL state meet in the 100h (13.40) and was second at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor by running a (13.37) PR. Her 200m races produced a third place finish at the state meet (23.52) and third at the Great Southwest Classic (23.85).

That was on Hollis' mind when taking her visits and also played a big part in making her decision. "They (Arkansas) did win NCAA and I looked at how the athletes progressed and they had some athletes who did great in both events, sprints and hurdles and that was a yes for me."

The process was long, but Hollis learned a lot and offers this advice, "Make sure you know what you want before you go. Pay attention to everything the environment and talk to the other athletes and as a lot of questions and you'll know where you fit in best."
