Coppell Is Gearing Up For A Title Defense

It was just last year, that we witnessed the Coppell girls execute a nearly perfect race plan to win the 2018 state cross country meet.

The 2019 season hasn't been as smooth for the defending state champions as you might think. In fact, things have been a little bit more of a transitioning season.

But now, Coppell appears to have it going on precisely at the right time. Last year, Coppell was clicking all season long before capping things off with the title, but both last year and this year, the only meets that mattered are the qualifying meets and the championship meet.

The championship season is going well once again -- Probably by design. At the UIL 6A - District 6, the Lady Cowboys had a great race, topping Flower Mound who has been one of the best teams in the state all season long.

They ran a 18:52 team average with a 35 second split for the win. Their first four runners ran within 8 seconds of one another.

If that doesn't raise your eyebrows, how about their runner-up regional race? They ran the three mile course in a 18:18 team average and a 49 second split for second place. The 18:18 team average just happens to be the same average Coppell ran last year at state for the win.

With state going down on Saturday, it looks like the defending state champions are ratcheting up the pressure on the rest of the state.
