UIL State Cross Country Meet Class By Class Preview

3A

Girls

Individual: Peyton Muntz, Ellie Albrecht, Hannah Spears, Kylene Elias

Muntz is having a big season and she is looking to cap off her career with a stat title. However, she will have to go through Albrecht who is ready to assume the throne. Albrecht was third last year and second in both the 1600m and 3200m at the state track meet.

Youngsters like sophomore Spears and freshman Elias are fearless and talented. Both girls have legit shots at the state title as well.

Sleeper: Finley Hunting

Hunting has been competitive in every race this freshman year. Her improvement was very drastic at the Region 4 meet where she was runner-up to Albrecht. If she makes another big jump the San Antonio Cole youngster could threaten the other girls.

Teams: Wall, Yoakum, Holliday, Presidio

This race will be what you expect a state meet to be...up for grabs. Wall and Yoakum are both very good and have the capability to run sub 40 second splits. That will make them hard to beat, but Holliday and Presidio are very good teams themselves. Holliday has a low stick with Spears that should help them and Presidio has he capability of running extremely tight.

Sleeper: Lago Vista

Lago Vista is a very good team and like many others on the list, they can pack run. If their four, five, and six can move up some, they could really take it all.

Boys

Individual: Daniel Stout, Edwin Zamudio, Ofir Ortega, Dalton Page

Last week, Stout and Zamudio went head to head at Region 4 and they'll get to do it again. Both guys have been raised by superior teammates who have all graduate and they are now in the spotlight and it is all theirs. Watch these two fight for a championship of their own.

Ortega, is a lot like Stout and Zamudio. He had older teammates who also showed him the way and he is the leader now. Ortega is having a very good senior year and a state title is within reach.

Page is a front runner type of guy. He does the dirty work for the Eustace team and they are counting on him once again be the low stick. He would like it to be as low as possible and the lowest is No. 1.

Sleeper: William Boyce

Boyce has been to the state met before, so he should be comfortable in the situation. He had a very good track season dropping some big PRs when it mattered and also medaled in the 1600m. He isn't afraid to run in the front and take the lead as his Region 3 win shows. He can win it all.

Teams: Eustace, McGregor, Tornillo

Eustace won the state title last year and they are back to do it again. They have a low stick runner and the guys to back him up. McGregor and Tornillo will be there and should get trophies, but can they top Eustace is the question.

Sleeper: Whitesboro

The Region 2 champs can run and they can threaten the top three for a trophy. If they are to threaten for the top spot, they'll have to keep their split low and they could do it.
