The Carl Lewis High School Invitational begins this evening with a couple of sprint prelim races. The meet is always a big hit with track fans and with elite performances.

The 2020 meet will fall right in line with the history. There will thousands of athletes to compete in Houston this weekend on their beautiful banked track.

Below are some of the many hot events that you will want to be sure to see, why you wil want to see them and who will be key participants in these events.

Girls 200m

The Girls 200m is one event you won't want to miss. The times were off the charts last year compared to years past and that trend should continue.

There are a couple of 2019 state meet qualifying sprinters in this event with Meghan Wilcox, Victoria Wright, and Autumn Wilson.

Wilcox is coming off of a great meet last week at A&M as is Chermariea Hardy and they will look to continue their momentum in the early goings of the season.

Boys 200m

The boys 200m will be just as good to watch as the girls will; there are some excellent sprinters in this event. Some athletes will be looking to get their season started and some who look for momentum. There are also some who have qualified for their state meet and others looking to do that this year.

Robert Gregory is perhaps the one to watch in this event.  Even though this will be his first meet of the year, he will still be the headliner. The UIL 4A state champ has dipped under 21 second on several occasions and should make the finals. Colorado 200m state runner up Jackson Connelly will also compete for a finals spot.

Dakota Johnson, DeAnthony Nervis, and Bryson Stubblefield all got their competitive juices flowing with great performances last week at A&M. Look out for them in tonight's prelims and tomorrow's events.

Girls Shot Put

The girls put on a show at A&M in this event and now that they are warmed up, we should see even better performances this weekend. If you have never watched a shot put competition, this is one you won't want to miss. The throwing ring is intimate and you will see some good athletes tossing all over the ring.

The A&M champion will look to repeat a tough feat she accomplished last week. KeAyla Dove threw a big time 46-06.75 last weekend. With hopes to repeat or improve, the competition will be looking to do the same. Last week's runner-up Amelia Flynt along with Kiana Lowery and others will look to throw for the win.

Girls 800m

The girls half mile will be must see action. We saw a couple of these competitors give it a go last week at A&M. Another week later, we will see some of the stars put on another show, but there will be some additional big names lacing up the spikes for the first time.

Krianne McBride and Daphne Matthews both had very good sub 2:00 races. McBride won the A&M race with a 2:15.26 with Matthews in third with a solid 2:18.13.

This week, they'll have company with several girls that have sub 2:13 outdoor PRs. Kennedy Wade, Kat Kwiatkowski, Marissa Agee, and Jaiden Itson will make it barn burner of a race. This could be the best race of the weekend, so be prepared to watch these girls put on a show.

Boys 60M

The boys 60 will be very exciting. The speed will be on display just as it was last weekend at A&M, but out of state talent could add some spice to this event.

Dakota Jackson, Bryson Stubblefield, and DeAnthony Nervis proved they have the speed to dazzle the crowd and make the finals. However Kayshon Boutte (LA) and Jackson Connelly (CO) will challenge. Both runners are state finalists in their respective states and Boutte has a 6.90 from last year's Louisiana Indoor State Championships. Watch youngster Ashton Torns who ran 7.10 earlier this season as he could also join the upperclassmen in making it through the rounds.
