Bailey Goggans Goes 2:09.71 At Texas Tech Vs Collegians

Bailey Goggans competed in her second race of the season and the first in her primary 800m event. The Marble Falls junior did it against collegiate athletes and coming away with a superb time for the first of the season.

The intention to race college athletes was to get competition and a fast race pace and preferably one she wouldn't have to dictate and carry the load for. It was a success as she finished with a 2:09.71 in third place at the Texas Tech Invitational.

The pace and competition took the first 200m out at 31.81 with Goggans close in tow in third place at a 31.91 split. She kept pace and contact with the leaders as she took the lead right before the 400m split.

Halfway through the race, Goggans found herself in the lead after she ran a 33.01 second 200m for a split of 1:04.92. She powered down the backstretch of the third lap putting pressure on the college athletes to pick it up or get left in her dust.

After a third lap of 32.07, Goggans was still in the lead with a 1:36.98 600m split. The competition she was looking for was in jeopardy of not being present to help carry her Goggans to a solid time. However, in the last 200m, two collegiate runners kicked it in gear. In the tough and costly last 200m, winner Charokee Young (Texas A&M) and runner-up Alyssa Brewer (Southern California) both put in 30 second 200m splits.

The collegians were able to catch up with and pass Goggans as they helped push her through a 32.73 second last lap in route to her US No. 6 2:09.71.

If that's Goggans' tune up race to the season, let's wait to see what her follow up will be.
