UIL 6A 400m Champ Omajuwa Etiwe Opens With 21.56 And 47.74

El Paso Hanks Invitation Boys 200m Final

Omajuwa Etiwe is back and he is out for another state title and his efforts this weekend are evidence of that. The El Paso Hanks Invitational was his first competition of the season and the Franklin senior saw that his fitness level are right where they need to be right now.

Etiwe ran a 47.74 in the 400m prelims on Friday night to get his title defense under way. He ended his 2019 season with three consecutive sub 48 400m races, two of which were sub 47s (46.95 - Region 1-6A and 46.51-State). Initiating the season season with his fourth consecutive sub 48 is a good sign.

However, he wasn't complete with his weekend. Etiwe dropped a 21.56 in the 200m, which is just .09 off his 21.47 PR.

Although his times were impressive, they weren't easy. The El Paso weather this weekend were nice, especially for February, but they weren't necessarily the best sprinting conditions. The temperatures were cold and the winds were definitely blowing, but not enough to slow down the Texas A&M signee.

When April and May rolls around, we could see some fabulous running from the talented El Paso sprinter.
