Interview with Rachel Johnson

Txrunning- Alex Aldaco: So right now you are the 5A state leader with your 18:07... did you expect to see yourself at the top of the list? And what goals have you set for yourself?

Rachel Johnson: A couple of years ago, I would have never expected to see myself at the top of the list, but I have been training hard and am glad that all my work is paying off. My biggest goal right now is to be in the top three for the state cross country meet.

Txrunning- Alex Aldaco: You really had a breakout season last year on the track running 4:57 and 10:44, What do you attribute this to?

Rachel Johnson: Last year during track, I joined a running club called the Metroplex Striders and I started running more miles and I trained harder during offseason than I had in the past and, so I think that helped bring down my times a lot.

Txrunning- Alex Aldaco: Tell me an interesting fact about yourself not many people know?

Rachel Johnson:   One thing most people don’t know about me is that I love popcorn and I usually eat some the night before I race.

Txrunning- Alex Aldaco: What is a typical week of training for you?

Rachel Johnson : I usually run 45-50 miles a week and rest on Fridays.

Txrunning- Alex Aldaco: Dedication is a big part of being a competitive runner, where do you get your drive from?

Rachel Johnson : I’ve loved running since I was little, so it is easier for me to be  dedicated to running since I love it so much. I also have a lot of support from my coach, team, family, friends, and God.

My favorite thing about running is that, for me, it releases a lot of stress. If I’m having a bad day, sometimes I’ll go run and I will feel better. I feel at peace when I run. I also like all of the friends that I have met through running because they are all so supportive and we push each other to do our best.

I don’t really have a least favorite thing about running, but if I had to pick something it would probably be that running is very time consuming.

I think that if I wasn’t running, I would probably like to play soccer because I really liked playing soccer when I was little.

I hope that God says: “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” (Matthew 25: 34-36).
