W2W4: What To Watch For At Spartan Invitational

The girls sprints should be entertaining throughout the entire meet. The events are loaded with state champions from the 2019 season. Many of the girls also either had outstanding indoor seasons or early outdoor seasons where they ran well.

Laila Owens

Owens is the defending UIL 6A 200m state champion when she ran a 23.38 last spring. Owens was having a good start to what could have been an epic year for her before the end of the season. During the indoor season she ran 7.47 in the 60m and 23.55 in the 200m.

The Texas A&M University signee had dropped times of 12.20, 24.09, and 54.37 with her last race coming on March 7th. Owens is only entered in the 100m this weekend so we'll see how much zoom she has in her.

The push in the 100m will definitely be there for her with the loaded field. San Antonio Reagan junior Jasmine Montgomery has the highest seed time and she will be joined by Taejha Badal, Camryn Dickson, and others ladies who will give Owens a race in the 100m.

Autumn Wilson

Like the other athletes here, the three time TAPPS state champion in 2019 (100m, 200m, LJ) was having a good season. Wilson's indoor season was as good as any other with her 7.38 in the 60m and 23.80 in the 200m.

Outdoors, she was still on a roll as she ran 11.75 and 24.39 SBs. Last week at a local Track is Back #1, Wilson went 12.2 and 24.68 to get warmed up for this weekend. She'll be entered in both events on Saturday.

Dynasty McClennon

McClennon is yet another state championship winning entry, she won the UIL 6A 400m (53.25)and was fifth in the 200m.

This indoor season she ran 7.61, 24.23, and 55.43; the last outdoor race for McClennon was way back on March 5th. She still generated some momentum this season before it ended with SBs of 12.05, 24.46, and 55.63; she is entered in the 100m and 200m this weekend.

Hali Murphy

Murphy is another stellar athlete for the home team who will be in the mix. She is the TAPPS 6A 400m state champion from 2019. Murphy had an outstanding indoor season going 7.73, 24.56, and 55.34. The Leander Spartan TC sprinter is entered in the 100m and the 400m.

Before season's end, she logged a 11.82, 24.97, and a 55.36. This week, at the Track is Back #1 meet, Murphy showed her fitness is ready to pick up where she left off when she ran a 55.32 in the 400m.
