Highland Park Senior Organizes 5K Run For Homeless Charity

There are approximately 3,000 kids in Dallas, Texas who go to sleep each night without a home of their own. In this critical time of their lives, homeless children may suffer life long social, emotional, and education deficits.

Vogel Alcove (VA), is an organization whose vision is to make an impact and help every child to have a home; their mission is to make an impact.

Highland Park senior, Isabel Blaylock shares VA's same vision and mission. The Dallas student-athlete has been led to volunteer and that volunteerism has now turned into leading a mission of her own.

Blaylock is organizing a virtual 5K run to raise donations for the Vogel Alcove called Run VA, "Seeing the effect of COVID-19 on our community inspired me to take action and give back to my city. Dallas is home to over a million people coming from different backgrounds and circumstances. When I saw the difference that Vogel Alcove was making in the lives of children, I found it only fitting to do something myself," Blaylock said.

The virtual race is scheduled for September 6, 2020 and registration is now open and remains open until September 5, 2020. The official race time begins on September 6th at 8:00 a.m. CST and results can be submitted through 3:00 p.m. that day.
