ABILENE -- Amos Sang cruised to a 50-second victory Saturday morning in the individual race at the Naimadu Pre-Regional cross country meet, but his first-place finish wasn't enough to give No. 5 ACU the team victory at Nelson Park.

Tarleton State -- which figures to give ACU its stiffest challenge at the Lone Star Conference championship meet Oct. 24 in Canyon -- won the meet as it had five runners in the top 10.  The Texans scored 33 points to 42 for second-place ACU.  West Texas A&M was third with Dallas Baptist finishing fourth with 71 points.

Sang covered the four-mile course in 18:58.25 with teammate Colby Delbene finishing second in 19:48.16.

However, Tarleton State had runners finish third (Jared McNeil in 19:53.40), fifth (Westyn Rosiles in 20:21.25), sixth (Logan Mynar in 20:28.22), ninth (Roland Quezada in 20:30.96) and 10th (Gerzain Valenzuela in 20:39.83).

After Sang and Delbene in the top two spots, ACU's next-best finisher was Daniel Maina, who was eighth, covering the course in 20:29.53.  ACU -- which ran without Cleophas Tanui, who was ill -- saw Will Pike finish 14th in 20:55.48, while Jake Schofield finished 17th in 21:14.96.

On the women's side, Dallas Baptist took the team title with 18 points  with the five Lady Patriot runners finishing first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.  Defending LSC champion Midwestern State was second with 51 points, followed by West Texas A&M in third with 65 points, ACU fin fourth with 93 points and Tarleton State in fifth with 98 points.

Hannah Steffan of DBU won the individual title, covering the 4K course in 14:40.31.  ACU's top finisher was Chloe Susset, who finished ninth in 15:40.10.
