Emmanuel Sgouros Blazes 9:05 At NC Dash For Doobie 3,200m

Just last week, Emmanuel Sgouros dropped a tasty 4:12.28 1,600m PR at the Texas Distance Festival for a third place overall finish. Afterwards, we called him an emerging star; we were wrong. Sgouros is no longer emerging . . . the Houston St John's distance runner has arrived.

This weekend, he took on more of the country's top distance runners when he travelled to the New Balance Dash for Doobie 3200 in Winston-Salem, NC. That resulted in yet another star performance and PR for the SPC runner, but this time it ended up a little sweeter when it resulted in a win.

For the first half of the race, Sgouros stalked the leaders coming through the half way mark in 4:37, eventually taking the lead as soon as they passed 1,600m. Coming through 2K with just under a five meter lead, Sgouros would slowly grow a lead that would build to nearly 40 meters ahead of the chase pack with a lap to go.

A 1:05 last lap helped him roll to a 9:05.82 for the win and improved his rankings both state wide and nationally. Sgouros is now ranked TX No. 4 in the 1,600m and No. 2 in the 3,200m and sits US. No. 12 and No. 7 respectively in the two events.
