Kason O'Riley of Marble Falls has been waiting for this opportunity for two years. Back in 2019, the then sophomore went to Austin with hopes of winning a state title, but things didn't work out as favorably as he would have liked. Since then, O'Riley worked on is craft along with a little bit of hooping to ensure he was ready to go when the time was right. Last year, he had improved from his 6-8 best to 6-10 before the pandemic forced the season to end.
This year, the Marble Falls seniort had taken another jump up (pun intended) in height, reaching 7-0. Now, the real test was here after he successfully made it through the qualifying rounds again.
This year, he passed the test and won the 5A Boys' high jump in a highly talented field. O'Riley was unsuccessful in his first attempt at 6-6.00 but quickly regrouped and managed to finish at a height of 7-0.00. O'Riley then went on to attempt 7-1.75, in which he was unsuccessful.
O'Riley said his goal was to go 7-1.00 but was happy to have matched his PR of 7-0.00. The senior is committed to Oklahoma. Finishing behind O'Reilly was Patrick Elizondo of Friendswood in second and Tristan Thurman of Aledo.
