Southland Conference Cross Country Results
The Sam Houston men's team placed eighth and the Bearkat women were ninth at the 45th annual Southland Conference cross country championships in Corpus Christi Saturday.
Lamar successfully defended its men's title with a team total of 38 points. McNeese State was the men's runner-up with 65 points. Francis Kasagule of Lamar won the men's individual title with a time of 23 minutes, 54 seconds.
Host A&M-Corpus Christi won the women's team championship with 58 points. Stephen F. Austin was the women's runner-up with 82 points. The Islanders' Anne Ronoh was the individual champion with a time of 20 minutes, 44 seconds.
Blake Woolums led Sam Houston's men runners with a 40th place finish, clocking in at 26:24. Joey D'Eramo was right behind in 41st place with a 26:26 clocking and Julius Michael was 44th at 26:27.
Victoria Gemeny led the Bearkat women, finishing 39th individually. Gemeny's time was 22:51. Sara Collazos was 41st with a 22:54 clocking and Kylie Fitzgerald was 42nd at 22:55.
The men ran a five-mile course while the women competed on a six kilometer layout.
