Katy Tompkins' finished runner-up in the 4x100 relay at the 2021 UIL 6A state meet

Relay Events

Boys 4x100 Relay

Last year was a 40 point season for both Katy Tompkins and Duncanville. Tompkins ran 40.49 at the UIL 6A state track meet, and was just hundredths of a second away from the state title. Duncanville ran 40.96 last year and like Tompkins returns a few pieces from last year.

Brenham ran 41.26 at the state meet last season where they finished 5th at the UIL 5A state meet and Lancaster was sixth with their 41.41 SB at state.

Speaking of last year and state meets, Ruston won the Louisiana 4x100 relay championships and just missed out on the 40 point party with their 41.14 SB.

This year, these teams are already running hot as Duncanville has the state's top time of 41.15 already in 2022. Lancaster is TX No. 3 with their 41.47, Fort Bend Ridge Point has a 41.89, and Tompkins has a 42.09 on the leaderboard for 2022.

Boys 4x200 Relay

If you thought the 4x100 relay teams were fasts, consider this. . .  three boys teams have already run 1:26.1 this year.

That's right, Ft. Bend Ridge Point (1:26.10), Duncanville (1:26.16), and Ft. Bend Hightower (1:26.17) are all just chest hairs away from running 1:25. Now that it's March, Mother Nature could cooperate and they could post even faster times.

Boys 4x800 Relays

It's been years since a good 4x800 relay with all points of the state of Texas competed against one another. This weekend will be the first of this year as area teams from the DFW, Houston, and Austin regions will line up.

Get your popcorn ready, because it should be an exciting race as four of the state's top 10 teams this year (Austin Lake Travis - TX No. 2, Houston Strake Jesuit - TX No. 6, Ft Bend Ridge Point - TX No. 7, Duncanville - TX No. 9, and Pearland - TX No. 11) are all scheduled to race it out. All of those teams are under 8:20 and Lake Travis' 8:05.81 is pretty impressive.

Also scheduled for competition is Katy Cinco Ranch and Bridgeland. Cinco Ranch has three boys who have already ran sub 2:00 this year and Bridgeland ran 8:10.78 indoors.

What would add drama would be if Ruston would be like a Louisiana middle distance powerhouse. Well, they kind of are. They ran 7:53.50 last year on March 6th. That'll be 358 days ago when they line up. Just to prove they haven't lost their touch in this event, they ran 8:10 indoors this year.

Girls 4x100 Relay

Last year was a fabulous season in the girls sprint relays. In fact, we have two of those teams lining up this weekend.

Katy Seven Lakes won the UIL 6A state championship last year with their 44.89 as they edged out San Antonio Reagan who ran 45.00 for second. They were ranked US. No. 1 and No. 2 last season and again, they'll be in College Station for a rematch.

Currently, Seven Lakes has the TX No. 1 time of 46.25 already and looks primed to make a run into the 45s this season, which could happen this weekend. Lancaster and Clear Brook also look ready to go for this weekend. The Lady Tigers have posted a 46.71 for TX No. 3 and the Lady Wolverines are right behind them with a 46.97 for the TX No. 4 ranking in the 4x100 relay.

Girls 4x800 Relay

As with the boy's 4x800 relay, the girls should be just as exciting. Katy, Tomball, and Katy Seven Lakes are ranked TX No. 5, No. 6, and No. 7 and are only separated by six seconds. Add TX No. 9 Pearland and the race becomes even more interesting.

Bridgeland and Katy Cinco Ranch have yet to run a 4x800 relay, which they might have done last weekend at Bubba Fife, but it was canceled.

Add Ruston and their 9:49 from last season in the mix with the Texas girls and this will be a good eight lap race. Oh, did I fail to mention that Ruston ran 9:54.59 indoors already?
