Back in April, Marcus senior-to-be, Emma Sralla told us, "it would mean the world," to win the UIL 6A state championship in the discus; that would be the start of things she wanted to accomplish this year.
Sralla further expressed that her main goal was to do well at the World U20 Championships, "I'm just trying to set up good for Worlds (U20 World Championships) in August," she said.
Fast forward to now, the UIL 6A discus state meet gold medal is at home and yesterday, Sralla put herself in position to follow through on the back end of her goals.
In Cali, Colombia, Sralla represented Sweden and threw far enough (54.51 meters/178-8 feet) to put her in the top position heading into the finals. In fact, she is more than two meters ahead of the second best competitor and the rest of the field.
This is the biggest stage of track and field at the high school level. Sralla is competing with the best athletes in the world and with one step remaining, she is winning.
Heading into these championships, Sralla entered as the No. 2 all-time best Texas discus thrower with her 185-0 toss at the UIL 6A -District 5-6A Area Championships back in April. She could end up leaving as the gold medal winner and with a World Championship.
