Lubbock - With 13 top 10 finishes by the women and 12 by the men, the Sam Houston State track and field team put on another exciting display in the Bearkats' second weekend of indoor action Friday and Saturday at the Wes Kittley Invitational hosted by Texas Tech.
Kristi Hermes produced Sam Houston's highest finish, placing third in the women's pole vault with a mark of 11 feet, 1.75 inches.
Ambra McCuin and Jordan Heggie both produced fourth place finishes, McCuin in the long jump (18 feet, 7.25 inches) and Heggie in the 55 meter hurdles (8.01 seconds).
Jason Russell's fourth place performance in the weight throw (56 feet, 2.5 inches) was the highest finish for the Bearkat men.
The distance medley relay of Matt Stephenson, Leon Banks, Roger Rueweller and Clint Anders combined for a time of 10:33.91 to place fifth. Jay Newman, Matt Johnson, Rickardo Chambers and Rueweller were sixth in the men's 4x400 relay with a mark of 3:18.41.
Bearkat women posting fifth place finishes included Jessica Fisher in the 200 meters (24.92), Christina Webb in both the weight throw (44' 8.25") and the shot put (53' 2.25") and Sara Collazos in the 5,000 meter run (19:33.97).
Next action for the Bearkats will be the Cougar Multi-Events meet hosted by the University of Houston next weekend, Jan. 29-30.
