In case you missed it, Elizabeth Leachman (Boerne Champion) and Caden Leonard (Southlake Carroll) were announced as Texas Gatorade Players of the Year for the 2024 cross country season.
Leachman won her second straight UIL 5A girls cross country state championship and Leonard accomplished the same feat for the boys UIL 6A division. The national championship level running is what set the two apart from the rest of their Texas counterparts.
Leachman finished second at the NXR South Regional Championships followed by a win a week later at the Foot Locker South Regional. At the two national championships, Leachman was third at the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN)and then ran to her second year winning the Foot Locker Nationals.
For Leonard, after the state meet hw won the NXR South Region and then at NXN, he managed to recover from a slip and fall in the final 2K of the race to manage a third place finish.
