Savannah Byers (Humble Kingwood) competes at the 2024 UIL 6A state meet
Texas A&M Bluebonnet Invitational
March 7-8, 2025
The track events get a lot of the attention in this sport. However, the name of the sport is track and field. As exciting as the track events will be this weekend, the field events will actually be the best competition going on in College Station.
My fellow running people, get out of your feelings, that is just the truth.
The girls high jump has a chance to be phenomenal. It has the reigning and defending UIL 6A state champion in it.
The girls pole vault has a 13-footer along with nearly 10 of the top vaulters in the state.
The long and triple jumps have been the best girls events in the state for the last several years and will be that good this weekend.
Both throwing events have many of the current top ranked girls competing and it will be a throw-a-thon on the A&M campus that you won't want to miss.
Here are our thoughts on some of the top athletes in each event.
Girls High Jump
The girls high jump competition will be exciting. It has a couple of state meet qualifiers from last year, including the UIL 6A state champion, Brianna Rivers (Humble Summer Creek). Rivers, an Oklahoma commit comes in with an outdoor clearance of 5-8 this year and went 5-10 indoors.
Two other Humble ISD jumpers will give Rivers a jump for her money. Savannah Byers (Humble Kingwood) has cleared the 5-8 bar this year, but also went 5-10 last season. She placed sixth at the 2024 UIL 6A state meet.
The other Humble ISD student-athlete and talented jumper is Evan Giles (Humble Kingwood). She has a 5-8 clearance this season and is tied with the third highest jump; she also cleared 5-8 indoors.
Chiora Enyinna-Okeigbo (Sunnyvale) ranks in the top 20 in the state in multiple events, including the high jump with her 5-7 clearance at the Blackberry Relays. She qualified for three events to the 2024 state meet and medaled in all of them. One was a third place finish in the high jump.
Other Athletes To Watch:
Londyn Colon (Klein Oak) - Has cleared 5-6 this season; tied No. 11 in the state
Kamdyn Spencer (Klein) - Has cleared 5-6 this season; tied No. 11 in the state
Madina Muhammad (Klein) - Has cleared 5-6 this season; tied No. 11 in the state
Girls Pole Vault
Carla Angueira-Colombani (Katy Seven Lakes) Colombani is on fire for this 2025 outdoor track and field season as a jumper and a vaulter. She is a 19-footer in the long jump and in the pole vault, she has cleared 12-6 this season to rank third. Last year as a freshman, she placed fifth at the 2024 UIL 6A state meet.
When in rhythm, Tierra Cullivan (Bridgeland) is one of Texas' top vaulters. She cleared the 13-3.5 bar last season and this past indoor season, she went 13-4 at the UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit. She currently has a 12-0 outdoor best and ranks tied for eight in the state.

Girls Long Jump
Sydney Sims (Fort Bend Elkins) has proven she is capable of popping a huge jump at times. Last week, she popped the biggest of her career at the Spartan Relays when she lept 20-feet. She comes into this weekend as the top jumper this season. However, if she wants to win this meet, she'll have to put it altogether to beat some girls who have been in the upper echelon of Texas' fly and land in sand girls the past several years.
Taylor Nunez (Randolph) knows a little bit about jumping far and a lot about winning. She is a 20-footer herself with a career best 20-8.50 jump. She also has three UIL state meet gold medals to prove it. This will be her runway and pit for the next couple of years, so look for her to make herself well acquainted and get some good vibes started with the facilities.
Lily Muzzy (Georgetown) is another state meet qualifier. Even though she hasn't quite found her groove this season in the long jump, she does has a 19-4.25 PR.
Ashley Lister (Duncanville) and Caitlyn Cavitt (Arlington Martin) were both UIL 6A state meet long jumpers last year. Lister has a 20-0.25 PR and placed fifth and Cavitt has a 19-11.75 best and was seventh at state.
Arieanna Jefferson (Ferris) was the UIL 4A state meet runner-up and even though Chiora Enyinna-Okeigbo (Sunnyvale) qualified for state in three events that wasn't the long jump, she is a 19-foot plus jumper.
The outlier is Bayleigh Minor (Fort Bend Christian) who is a TAPPS long jump state champion. Many recognize her for her sprint exploits, but her mother is in the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame and long jumped on the world stage and professionally.
