Region 1 in 5A is loaded with elite talent, particularly in the sprints, where Lubbock-Cooper's Niomi Wines has established herself as the fastest in the region. She owns the top 100-meter time at 11.74 from the McKinney North Bulldog Relays and has been consistent, clocking 11.75 and 11.87 at the Pirate Relays. Midlothian Heritage's Angel Brefo (11.77) and El Paso Chapin's freshman standout Laurin Gardner (11.90) are right on her heels. In the 200 meters, Fort Worth Wyatt's Nia Trammell has been dominant, running 23.74 at the Bluebonnet Invitational and following that with a 23.88 at the Jimmie Sanders Wildcat Invitational. Brefo is also excelling in this event, running 24.28, while Gardner (24.33) and Wines (24.44) round out the top five.

Midlothian's Mallory McLemore has been the class of the 400 meters, leading the region with a 55.22 from the Mean Green HS Invitational. Amarillo's Sierra Cornell (56.39) and Burleson's Kerrah Evans (56.43) are in close pursuit. Mansfield Timberview's Tahja Mims (56.96) and Amarillo Tascosa's Saphina Stanley (56.57) add to a deep field.

Timberview continues to dominate in the relays, posting the best 4x200 time at 1:39.75 from the Timberview Relays and contending in the 4x100 and 4x400 as well. In the distance events, Lubbock High's Reese Pena has been a force, leading the 1600 meters with a 4:58.96 from the Pirate Relays and also running 5:04.57 at Bluebonnet. She's been active across multiple distances, finishing second in the 3200 meters with an 11:32.15 at the Lubbock ISD City Meet. Aledo's Micah Neal leads that event with an 11:20.85 from the Bearcat Relays. Burleson Centennial's Ella Magallan has also been consistent, clocking 5:04.57 in the 1600 and 11:23.27 in the 3200.

Denton Ryan's Kailyn Head is the premier hurdler in Region 1, leading both the 100-meter hurdles (13.85) and 300-meter hurdles (42.12). She's been dominant, running multiple sub-14 performances in the 100s and under 43 seconds in the 300s. Mansfield Timberview's Makenzie Piggee (14.43) and Bailey Boyd (14.72) are also putting up strong performances in the sprint hurdles, while Piggee (44.66) and Chandler Graham of Amarillo Tascosa (45.81) are among the best in the 300 hurdles.

In the field events, Mansfield Timberview's Alexandria Drummond leads the long jump with a stellar 19-10 from Timberview Relays, just ahead of Amarillo Tascosa's Stanley (19-8.75). Keller Fossil Ridge's Aniyah Harrison-Stewart is making a mark in both jumps, recording an 18-9 long jump and a region-leading 39-0.5 triple jump. Lubbock-Cooper's Wines isn't just fast--she's also the region's top high jumper with a 5-8 clearance at the Pirate Relays and McKinney North Bulldog Relays. Peyton Berry of Argyle leads the pole vault, clearing 12-3 at the Bearcat Relays, while Aledo's Maggie Kilburn (11-9) is in close contention. Throwers have been making noise as well, with Plainview's Ava Rushing leading both shot put (43-8) and discus (136-1.5). Denton Ryan's Esenam Hussey is pushing the pace in discus, throwing 133-11 at McKinney North, while El Paso Burges' Delanie Harrison has recorded a solid 132-6 in the event. As the season progresses, Region 1's top athletes are gearing up for what should be a highly competitive postseason.
