Region 2 in 5A has seen standout performances across multiple events, with several athletes making their mark on the state leaderboard. Red Oak's Zahria Bernard leads the region in the 100 meters with an 11.47 at the Desoto Nike Invitational, while Frisco Heritage's Sunmi Akinyeye has put together an impressive season with three top-five performances, including an 11.62 at the Pirate Invitational.
Bernard also holds the top 200-meter time in the region at 24.02 from the Red Oak Ritter-Carter Relays. Akinyeye remains a dominant presence in the sprints, ranking second with a 24.08 from the Prosper Dan Christie Relays and appearing four times in the top 10. Midlothian Heritage's Angel Brefo (24.28) and Frisco Emerson's Corrine Purnell (24.45) are also among the region's top competitors.
