2025 UIL 3-6A Regional Championships Boys 4x400 Relay Finals
Texas high school track and field is synonymous with excellence, and no event embodies that more than the 4x400-meter relay-the dramatic closer of every meet and a true test of speed, heart, and teamwork. Over the decades, the Lone Star State has produced legendary quartets, and now, in 2025, Houston Lamar has added its name to that storied legacy in a major way.
The Texans etched their names into the record books at the Region 3-6A Championships, where they not only dominated the competition but did so with a jaw-dropping time of 3:08.51, a mark that eclipsed theformer 3:08.55 that has been held by Beaumont West Brook since 1994. That record itself was the successor to Dallas Roosevelt's 3:09 flat set in 1984, which once stood as a national benchmark. For over three decades, no Texas team had touched those times-until now.
Houston Lamar's crew of Ryan Johnson Bailey Hashmi, Devin Carpenter, and Jordan Godfrey delivered a performance that shocked the state and made national waves. With their 3:08.51, Lamar now ranks fourth all-time nationally, trailing only Hawthorne (CA) at 3:07.40, New Bern (NC) at 3:08.05, and Serra Gardena (CA) at 3:08.42. The door to even greater history is wide open.
What's perhaps most impressive is Lamar's meteoric progression. Just weeks ago, their season best was 3:15. Then, they dropped to 3:12.76 in prelims before unloading their historic finals performance. That kind of improvement hints that we may not have even seen their ceiling yet.
With the UIL 6A State Championships in Austin on May 3 up next, the question becomes: Can Houston Lamar push even further? Could they be the team to finally threaten the national record that's stood for nearly 40 years? If their recent form is any indication, this quartet isn't just racing against the clock-they're racing toward immortality.
