Three harriers honored

Three members of the Angelo State women's cross country squad have been recognized as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country All-Academic honorees for 2009.

Seniors Brittney Heath and Paige Massingill along with freshman Emeline Crutcher were among the 286 student-athletes recognized by the association Friday. To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must have complete a minimum of 12 hours during the fall semester with at least a 3.25 grade point average and have in the top 30 percent at the regional meet.

Heath was the Rambelles' top finisher at the 2009 NCAA D-II South Central Region Meet, placing 27th. Crutcher placed 55th and Massingill was 56th. ASUhad three of six honorees from the Lone Star Conference.

In addition to the three individuals honored, the Rambelles as a team were recognized as an All-Academic Team. ASU boasted a team GPA of 3.02. For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA. The Rambelles were one of four squads from the LSC to earn this honor.
