Trinity Braziel Davis Holds Onto 100M Lead For State Title

2025 UIL 4A Girls 100m

The 2025 UIL 4A Girls 100-Meter Dash was packed with rising stars, veteran sprinters, and a thrilling finish that brought the crowd to its feet. While Sha'Carri Richardson's 2017 meet record of 11.28 remained untouched, the current generation of sprinters put on a show that matched the event's rich history. With wind gusts at +2.9 m/s, the times won't go into the record books-but the drama on the track certainly will.

Trinity Braziel Davis (Fort Worth Dunbar), a junior with something to prove, got out of the blocks cleanly and transitioned beautifully through her drive phase. By the midway point, she had built a clear lead and never looked back. Despite furious late charges from Madison Sweezer (Houston Yates) and Allanah Shepherd (Katy Freeman), Davis held strong to capture the title in 11.64 seconds, delivering on her potential and claiming her first gold at the state level.

Just behind her, the finish for second was razor-tight. Both Sweezer and Shepherd clocked 11.69, but it was the Houston Yates senior who edged ahead by just 0.008 seconds, securing the runner-up spot in what was likely her final high school race. Shepherd, just a sophomore, showed she'll be a major contender in the years to come.

Further down the field, freshman standout Rylee Steele (Tyler Chapel Hill) impressed with a fourth-place finish in 11.84, outpacing top seed Nautica-Marie Tunstel (Frisco Panther Creek), who ran 11.91. Maliya Curry (Manor New Tech), the fastest regional qualifier, placed sixth in 11.92, while returning champion Madison Holmes (El Campo) couldn't recapture her 2024 magic, finishing seventh in 12.06.

Though the wind made the times ineligible for records, the depth and youth in this final were undeniable. With four of the top five finishers set to return next year, the road to 2026 is already heating up-and the battle to chase Richardson's legendary mark is far from over.
