2025 UIL 3A girls 200m
Taylor Nunez of Universal City Randolph capped off an extraordinary day and an even more impressive career with a commanding victory in the 2025 UIL Girls 3A 200-meter dash, stopping the clock at a stunning 22.76 seconds - a performance that left no doubt about her dominance.
Already the 100-meter and long jump champion from earlier in the day, Nunez stormed out of lane 5, quickly made up the stagger, and hit the straightaway with a sizable lead, running all alone down the homestretch. Her victory marked her fourth consecutive 200-meter state title and her 12th overall state championship across her events, cementing her as one of the most decorated athletes in UIL history.
Breagan Blowers of Holliday, running out of lane 6, turned in a strong effort to claim second in 23.98, but she was no match for the blazing speed of Nunez. Paytin Thompson of Gladewater impressed as well, getting out fast from lane 8 and holding on for a well-earned third place in 24.09. Behind them, Starrmia Dixon of New Diana and Ella Klyn of Henrietta rounded out the top five in a tightly contested field. But on this day, all eyes were on Nunez, who once again proved herself the undisputed queen of Texas 3A sprinting.
In the end, Nunez ended the day with 12 individual gold medals, and 16 overall, the most in UIL history. She passed Ychlindria Spears, who won 14 championship gold medals when she attended Luling. Spears still holds the UIL long jump state meet record with her 21-3.25 from 2001.
Spears currently coaches Nunez in the long jump and watched her end the day with four medals when she anchored he 4x400 relay to a win and her 16th UIL gold medal. Nunez' Randolph squad also added their fourth consecutive UIL 3A team championship.
