The 2025 UIL Boys 2A 100-meter dash turned into a thrilling photo finish that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. With a legal tailwind of 2.5 m/s, the stage was set for a fast race - and the athletes delivered. Sam Mott of Tioga, a senior in lane 7, showcased outstanding top-end speed to edge out sophomore Kolter Dockery of Ropesville Ropes by the slimmest of margins. Both Mott and Dockery crossed the line in 10.70, but Mott's time of 10.696 narrowly earned him the gold over Dockery's 10.700, sealing a dramatic finish.
The battle for bronze was just as competitive, with Maleek Johnson of Grapeland surging down the stretch in lane 6 to clock 10.83 and secure third. Keyshaun Massington of Marlin, who had an explosive start from lane 1, showed great closing speed over the final 30 meters but narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in 10.85. Hagen Darney of Tom Bean rounded out the top five at 10.88.
Notably, eight of the nine finalists broke the 11-second barrier, highlighting the impressive depth of this year's 2A sprint field. Dockery, who came in with the fastest seed time of 10.67, held his own but was just nipped at the line, while Mott's late-race surge cemented his place at the top. It was a race packed with speed, tension, and heart - the kind of finish that track fans will be talking about for years.
