The 2025 UIL Girls 6A 3200-meter final delivered a thrilling showdown between two of Texas's top distance runners, Rowan Saacke of Bridgeland and Macy Wingard of Denton Braswell. From the gun, Wingard - a two-time 6A state cross country champion and last year's 3200m runner-up - set a blistering pace, taking the early lead down the backstretch and pulling a lead pack of four away from the field. Saacke tucked in right behind her, joined by teammate Lily Fawcett and Coppell's Maya Easterwood, creating a high-stakes Dallas-Houston battle at the front.
Through the middle laps, Wingard maintained her lead with smooth, consistent pacing, while Saacke and Fawcett stayed close and composed. Easterwood held in fourth, gradually losing touch with the top trio but still ahead of the chase pack, which was led by Flower Mound's Ava Cole. Despite the fast early tempo, Wingard showed no signs of letting up, and with 900 meters to go, she and Saacke began to break away even further from the field. The bell lap saw Wingard still in control - but Saacke was right on her heels, waiting for the perfect moment.
With 200 meters to go, Saacke launched a decisive move down the backstretch, surging past Wingard and opening up a lead that would only grow in the homestretch. She stormed across the finish line in a sensational 10:05.90, capturing gold with a fearless late kick. Wingard held strong for silver in 10:08.04, an impressive run after leading nearly the entire race. Behind them, Easterwood made one final surge, passing Fawcett in the closing meters to steal the bronze in 10:27.16.
It was a masterclass in patience and execution by Saacke and a gutsy, front-running effort from Wingard. The entire lead pack delivered a high-caliber race that lived up to expectations, with the depth of talent on full display from start to finish.
