Maddie Francis Hurdles Her Way To UIL 1A Girls 100H Gold

2025 UIL 1A Girls 100-Meter Hurdles

The 2025 UIL Girls 1A 100-meter hurdles played out just as many expected - with Silverton junior Maddie Francis delivering a commanding performance to claim gold. Coming in as the clear favorite with a season-best of 14.76, Francis wasted no time stamping her authority on the race. She exploded out of the blocks, cleared each hurdle with smooth, effortless form, and never let up, crossing the line in 14.79. Her lead was never in doubt, and her graceful, efficient hurdling set her apart from the field.

Behind Francis, the battle for the remaining medals was much tighter. Kaitlyn Collins of Wells ran a strong race, securing second in 16.25, while freshman Emilee Silva from Aspermont edged out Newcastle's Camren Mallory by just one-hundredth of a second - 16.73 to 16.74 - to claim the bronze. Baylee Rainey of Mertzon Irion County and Alivia Allison of Cross Plains weren't far behind, both finishing under 17 seconds.

Notably, McLean senior Kasidy Russell, the only senior in the field, finished seventh in her final state meet with a time of 17.06, while Avery Stevens of Zephyr rounded out the field. Francis's performance not only secured her state title but also underscored her dominance in the 1A ranks - and with one more year left, she'll be the clear favorite heading into 2026.
