Favorites To Win Houston Lamar Hold Onto 6A Boys 4x400 Relay

2025 UIL 6A Boys 4x400 Relay

The final event of the UIL track season was the UIL 6A Boys 4x400m relay that featured a Houston Lamar team fresh off running 3:08.51 at the Region 3 championships, the top time ever by a Texas school.

The low-scoring meet also meant the multiple teams still had a chance to win the State team title with a good result.

Houston Lamar took the lead right from the start. Ryan Johnson and Jordan Godfrey put them through the 800m in 1:34.73 and they had a solid lead over Houston Strake Jesuit. El Paso Franklin got into the mix on the third lap with a great leg by Tyson Cotchery put them in second place and Lamar nearly gave back their lead with the hand-off between Devin Carpenter and Bailey Hashmi caused Hashmi to reach back twice and do a full 360-degree turn before getting on track.

Despite the tough exchange, Houston Lamar maintained their lead and Hashmi brought them home to win in 3:11.94. El Paso Franklin held on for second place in 3:12.35 and Round Rock Stony Point made a big move behind Javon Waddle's 46.23 split that gave them third place in 3:13.43.

Houston Lamar entered the final event with only 12 points as a team, but the top three teams; Spring Dekaney, DeSoto and Southlake Carroll only had 24-26 points without an entry in the 4x400m. The win gave Houston Lamar the team title with 32 points while Killeen Shoemaker, the fourth place team in the race, moved up to second place with 28 points.
