2025 TAPPS 1A Boys 100m State Championship Recap
Grayson Smith (Azle Christian School) capped off a strong championship performance by claiming the TAPPS 1A Boys 100m title in a windy but decisive victory. Running in lane 6, Smith powered through the sprint straightaway to post a time of 11.07 (+3.3 m/s), using a fast start and clean transition to stay ahead of a tightly packed field. The win marked a standout moment for the sophomore, who also contributed to Azle Christian's team score with a commanding presence in multiple events.
Smith's teammate, Brodie Clark, added to the school's sprint success with a bronze medal finish in 11.43, ensuring Azle Christian had two podium spots in the final. Sandwiched between the Azle duo was Ben Tomsett (San Marcos Hill Country Christian), who surged in the second half of the race to claim silver in 11.36. His teammate, Jonas West, followed closely for fourth, making San Marcos another team with two top-five finishers.
Though the times were aided by a strong tailwind, the competitiveness of the final was clear. Just 0.48 seconds separated first from sixth, with Jackson Jones (Spring Founders), Aric Musterman (Conroe Lifestyle Christian), and Christian Gutierrez (The Winston School) all battling through the windy conditions. In a classification often defined by depth and raw speed, this race delivered both - with Smith leading the way to TAPPS gold.
2025 TAPPS 2A Boys 100m State Championship Recap
In a final that brought together speed, senior leadership, and a tailwind that kept the clock ticking fast, Peter Najvar (Bryan St. Joseph Catholic) delivered a gold-medal performance to win the TAPPS 2A Boys 100m title in 10.89 seconds (+2.8 m/s). Known for his consistent presence among the state's top small-school sprinters all season, Najvar-who clocked a season best of 10.62 earlier this spring-lived up to expectations by surging ahead of the field midway through the race and never relinquishing the lead.
Pushing him all the way to the line was Jackson Reece (Bryan Allen Academy), who took silver in 11.03. Reece was sharp out of the blocks and stayed close, making Najvar work for every inch in the closing meters. Rounding out the top three was Gaddiel Nakatare (Nazarene Christian Academy), whose strong finish in 11.13 earned him the bronze.
Lincoln Schleif and Mark Rayson, both from Universal City First Baptist Academy, gave their team a strong presence in the final, placing fourth and fifth respectively. Schleif clocked 11.22, narrowly ahead of Rayson's 11.24, proving that depth matters just as much as star power at the championship level.
The conditions may have been wind-aided, but the performances were no less impressive. Najvar's win cemented his status as one of the fastest in the TAPPS 2A ranks this season and gave Bryan St. Joseph Catholic a crucial ten-point boost in the team standings.
2025 TAPPS 3A Boys 100m State Championship Recap
In one of the most anticipated sprint showdowns in the TAPPS 3A division, Andrew Wright (San Antonio Burbank) stamped his authority on the state stage, taking home the gold medal in the boys' 100-meter final with an impressive 10.64 (+2.1 m/s). Wright, a junior and one of the top-ranked sprinters in TAPPS this season with a personal best of 10.56, lived up to his billing as the favorite. He exploded out of the blocks and never looked back, separating himself from the field by the halfway point and closing strong for the win.
Wright's teammate Aiden Martinez completed a dominant 1-2 finish for San Antonio Burbank, clocking 11.04 to secure silver. Martinez had entered the meet with a season best of 10.84 and showed why he's one of the most consistent threats in the classification with a composed performance that helped give Burbank a massive boost in the team standings.
Joshua DeRamus (Conroe Covenant Christian) took third in 11.14, holding off a hard-charging Rylan Goss (Lucas Christian), who placed fourth in 11.23. The top four finishers all came in under 11.25, making it one of the deepest finals in recent TAPPS 3A history.
The victory for Wright not only secured an individual title but further solidified his status as one of the fastest underclassmen in the state across all TAPPS classifications. With both Wright and Martinez returning next season, San Antonio Burbank could very well repeat this dominance in 2026.
2025 TAPPS 4A Boys 100m State Championship Recap
In one of the tightest finishes of the day, Miguel Monteiro Pereira (Midland Trinity School) captured the TAPPS 4A boys 100-meter dash title with a winning time of 10.92 (+2.0 m/s). The senior entered the meet with one of the top marks in the classification and backed it up with a composed, powerful run from the blocks to the line. His start was clean, and his acceleration phase proved enough to hold off the late challenge from a strong field.
Finishing just two-hundredths of a second behind Pereira was Tomiwa Akinyoade (Arlington Pantego Christian), who clocked 10.94 to secure the silver medal. Akinyoade, a consistent presence in the 4A sprints this season, pushed hard over the final 30 meters but ran out of real estate just before the line. His effort helped contribute to a strong team showing for Pantego Christian.
His teammate, Tristan Brown, followed up with a third-place finish in 11.09, making it two Pantego sprinters on the podium. Brown's top-end speed was on display as he held off Darek Kaminski (Lubbock All Saints Episcopal), who finished fourth in 11.21.
The remainder of the final featured tightly packed finishes: Brady Chandler (Geneva School of Boerne) came through in 11.28 for fifth, while Vincent Osorio and Louis Lopez of San Antonio Holy Cross finished sixth and seventh, respectively, within a hundredth of each other. Dillan Wickham (New Braunfels Christian) rounded out the field in 11.51.
While Pereira may not have been among the statewide leaders in terms of raw time compared to some 6A and 5A names, his execution in the final was textbook, making him a deserving state champion and ending his high school sprint career on the highest note possible.
2025 TAPPS 5A Boys 100m State Championship Recap
In the TAPPS 5A boys 100-meter final, Blake Hamilton (Fort Bend Christian Academy) delivered a statement performance, blazing down the track in a wind-aided 10.49 (+2.2 m/s) to win the state title. The junior and former UIL all-state sprinter had flashed elite potential all season long, but his explosive start and dominant drive phase left no doubt on the championship stage. Hamilton's time stands as one of the fastest across all TAPPS classifications in 2025.
Lawson Livingston (Tyler Grace Community) secured the silver with a strong showing of 10.74, capping off an impressive senior campaign where he consistently hovered in the top-10 statewide. Livingston remained composed through the middle of the race and fended off a surge of challengers to claim second.
Emerging as a breakout name in the final was freshman Baron Meacham (The Woodlands Christian), who finished third in 10.84. His poise and raw speed as a 9th grader earned him a spot on the podium and marked him as a name to watch in the coming years.
Rounding out the top five were Adler Smith in 10.91 and Joshua Hoover (San Antonio Saint Mary's Hall) in 11.07. Both had been standouts at their regional meets and held their own against a highly competitive field.
The final was wind-aided, but the talent on display was undeniable. With underclassmen like Hamilton and Meacham returning in 2026, TAPPS 5A sprints may only be getting faster.
2025 TAPPS 6A Boys 100m State Championship Recap
In a tightly contested TAPPS 6A boys 100-meter final, Carson Clark (Tomball Concordia Lutheran) delivered a composed and technically sound race to secure the state title in 10.64 seconds (+1.7 m/s). The junior standout had already posted a season-best 10.51 and entered as one of the top sprinters in the state across all private school divisions. With a smooth transition from drive phase to top-end speed, Clark held his form and surged ahead late to claim gold.
Pushing him all the way to the line was Tyler Shaw, the impressive sophomore from Plano Prestonwood Christian, who finished just behind in 10.68. Shaw, ranked among the top underclassmen this season, showed tremendous poise and power, reinforcing his status as one of the brightest young sprint talents in Texas.
Derek Stevenson (Houston St. Thomas), another strong contender, clocked 10.70 to take third. Stevenson has consistently hovered near the top of the leaderboard this spring and gave a valiant effort in his bid for gold, but came up just a few hundredths short in a final that was separated by tenths from first through fifth.
Also notable was Logan Branting, Stevenson's senior teammate, who ran 10.87 for fourth, helping Houston St. Thomas put two runners in the top four. Cullen Walls (Dallas Parish Episcopal) rounded out the top five with a time of 10.90, continuing his solid postseason form.
With Clark and Shaw both returning next year, the 6A sprint scene looks primed for another showdown in 2026. But for now, it's Clark who wears the crown as the fastest in TAPPS 6A.
