Jamie Klander Could See A Rewarding Senior Season

Jamie Klander is entering her senior cross country season, and her development has been impressive. Having her twin sister there to keep her accountable has undoubtedly been an advantage. This Katy Mayde Creek distance runner is looking forward to her final high school cross country season, and if previous years are any indication, she will take another significant step up.

In her freshman year, Klander started with 21-minute runs and improved to 19:55. by the end of track season, she was consistently running in the mid-5:30s for the 1,600m and mid-11:30s for the 3,200m. As a sophomore, she set a 18:09 personal record and finished 21st at the state cross country meet. During track season, she placed fifth in the 3,200m at the state meet with a 10:34 personal record.

Last fall, Klander went even further dipping under 18:00 with five runs in the 17s, including a new personal record of 17:24. She just missed the podium with a 12th-place finish in Round Rock. This consistent progress makes it highly anticipated that she will continue to grow this year. Her dedication to the sport and the work she has put in over the past there years are evident.

Last spring, despite not setting a new career best in the 3,200m, an average of 10:54.19 across eight 3,200m races and a 5:00 personal record in the 1,600m show that Klander continued to develop her speed and put in consistent effort.

Klander is currently ranked as the seventh best returning girl from the 2024 cross country season. Given her consistent improvement over the past three seasons, this year could be a highly rewarding one for her.
