For those unfamiliar, the Seven Lakes course is about as flat as they come, but don't mistake that for being fast. The terrain-grass with patches of gravel-combined with a series of sharp 90-degree turns, makes it a tactical challenge. With the Showcase often serving as the first true 5,000m race for many competitors, fans can expect to see solid early-season marks while teams and individuals test themselves against high-level competition.

Varsity Boys' Race Outlook
The boys' varsity field is loaded with runners clustered closely around the mid-15s, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.
Leading the charge is Samuel Garcia Camejo (Katy Seven Lakes), the home school's favorite. Garcia owns a personal best of 15:31.47 and brings in a solid range from the track, including a 9:58 3200m. Racing in front of the home crowd could give him the extra push to notch a big opener.
Right on his heels are Landon Flies (Tomball) and Carter Maloy (Katy Tompkins), both seeded at 15:32. Flies enters with a 9:40 3200m PR and has already sharpened his legs with a 10:07 two-mile at Klein Oak. Maloy, meanwhile, may be the most dangerous of the group, boasting a 4:21 1600m PR and showing plenty of closing speed during track season.
Another key name is Shepherd Steen (Fulshear), fresh off a victory at the BFND 4K Invitational, where he won comfortably in 12:20. His seed of 15:35.85 puts him squarely in contention. Dean Carman (Tomball Memorial) also figures to be a major factor after his 15:37 PR and a strong showing at Klein Oak.
Behind them is a deep supporting cast that could easily disrupt the front pack. Fabien Acevedo and Andrew Duff (Klein Oak) both enter with 15:51 PRs, and Jordan Wood (Katy Tompkins) brings Tompkins a second low-16 threat after clocking 15:54.86. Sophie Peterson (Houston Memorial) brings perhaps the sharpest track credentials to the race, with a 4:52 1600m PR and a recent Clear Falls 4000m win (14:30). She is seeded at 18:27 and could be a legitimate threat to break through with the win.
Host school Seven Lakes will be led by Kingsley Brown (18:43 seed), who is looking to establish herself among the region's top pack. Isabella Dulaney (Klein Oak), fresh off a two-mile win at Kingwood Park in 11:48, also figures to be in contention, while Kirsten Thomas (Cinco Ranch) and Brooklyn Allen (Katy Jordan) round out a strong chase pack seeded under 19:15.
Depth will also come from Klein Oak's duo of Dulaney and Jordyn Rotter (19:24), Katy Jordan's tandem of Allen and Alice Frame (19:26), and Chloe Stafford (Klein Cain), who has raced well across multiple distances.
