Meet Preview: Close Races Expected At Seven Lakes Showcase

2025 Seven Lakes Showcase Preview

The Seven Lakes Showcase has become a staple of the Houston-area early cross-country season, consistently drawing some of the region's top athletes and programs. This Saturday, the 2025 edition returns, promising another competitive showdown on one of the area's most unique courses.

For those unfamiliar, the Seven Lakes course is about as flat as they come, but don't mistake that for being fast. The terrain-grass with patches of gravel-combined with a series of sharp 90-degree turns, makes it a tactical challenge. With the Showcase often serving as the first true 5,000m race for many competitors, fans can expect to see solid early-season marks while teams and individuals test themselves against high-level competition.

While the Seven Lakes Showcase won't likely produce blazing fast times, but it will produce clarity. Expect this meet to set the early pecking order in Houston-area and Region 3 girls' and boys' cross country, establish who has made the leap from track to XC, and give us our first look at how programs like Seven Lakes, Tomball, Tompkins, Fulshear, and Klein Oak stack up against each other.
