Great weather, clear skies, low humidity,
slight wind and temp's in the 50's to mid 60's greeted the 1,800 runners
at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. This wide open course with one large hill 250M
from the start winds up and down a challenging 3200M girls and 3 Mile boys
track.Southlake Carroll won their
third consecutive Region I 5A title with 61 points. Marcus was 2nd
with 91 and Keller with 106 rounded
out the State Qualifiers in 3rd place. The girls started at high noon
with Erin Bedell from
Plano
West taking a 10 second lead at 800M. At 1200M the top 6 runners of Bedell,
Miranda Walker
(Southlake), Carlene Mayfield (Keller), Brooke Upshaw (Southlake), Christinia
Henderson (Coppell) and Christina Munoz (Montford) started to distance
themselves from the rest of the pack.Erin

In the boys team competition, Southlake Carroll boys (running without their
season long top 5 runner, Mark Summers), surprised the field by taking their
first 5A region championship with 92 points. Marcus 111 points was second
followed by Flower Mound with 138. The individual championship was easily
claimed by
