Arlington, Tx - Christina Webb led the Bearkats with a runner-up finish in the shot put to highlight action for the Sam Houston State women's team at the 46th annual Southland Conference outdoor track and field championships hosted by UT-Arlington
Webb tossed the shot a career best 48 feet, six inches. Tracey Row of Northwestern State won the event with a throw of 54 feet, 4.5 inches. The performance earned the junior her first All-Southland Conference honor.
Webb's throw was the second longest shot put in Sam Houston women's track and field history. Gay Neil Guliher set the school mark of 49' 5.75" in 1990.
Ambra McCuin also earned a medal and All-Southland honors with a third place in the long jump. McCuin topped her career best leap by more than a foot with a mark of 19 feet, six inches.
Sam Houston qualified three runners in the 100 meter hurdles. Jordan Heggie (14.17), Sabrina Starr (14.35) and Pashe Moore (14.38) placed fifth, sixth and seventh among the eight qualifiers. Heggie came into the championships with the top 100 meter hurdles time in the conference with a 13.62 clocking.
Freshman Simbi George was the sixth qualifier in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 55.89 seconds. Allysa Dooley qualified in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.19.
Dakota Stewart was the number six qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.30. Brittany Henson placed 12th in the event with a 1:04.32 clocking.
Morgan Davis scored in the hepthalon, placing fourth with 4,521 points. Other Bearkat competitors in the hepthalon were Danielle Ordonez (13th, 3,857), Emily Erickson (15th, 3,313) and Courtney Lueders (17th, 3,232).
Monika May (56.86) and Tonicia Wimberly (57.24) placed 12th and 15th, respectively in the 400 meter dash.
Friday night, Ebonee Stephens scored in the hammer with 6th place throw of 153 feet, 11 inches.
The Sam Houston women stand in seventh place going into Sunday's final day action.
