Blake Hamilton Blazes 19.90 (w) At Bluebonnet Invitational

Blake Hamilton (Katy Tompkins)

Katy Tompkins senior Blake Hamilton has returned home for his final high school season, and the results have been electric. After spending his junior year at Fort Bend Christian, where he captured TAPPS state titles in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, Hamilton transferred back to Tompkins for his senior campaign. The move has already paid off for the Falcons, as Hamilton has opened the 2026 outdoor season as one of the fastest sprinters in the country and a legitimate contender for Texas UIL state championships,  something he nearly achieved as a sophomore when he was already competing at an elite level.

Hamilton's season began with a historic performance at the Sam Mosley Relays, where he ran a wind-legal 20.38 in the 200 meters. The mark not only stood as the fastest 200m by an American in the month of February, but it also vaulted Hamilton to No. 15 on the all-time high school list.

It was an emphatic statement that his return to UIL competition would be anything but quiet. A week later, Hamilton stepped down in distance and proved his versatility, winning the 100 meters in 10.36 at the LCISD Relays, another indication that his speed range had expanded since his sophomore breakout.

The real test came at the 2026 Texas A&M Bluebonnet Invitational, one of the premier early-season meets in the country. The field included elite sprinters such as Dillon Mitchell, the fastest sophomore in U.S. history, and Justin Stewart, the UIL 5A state runner-up. With that level of competition, the question wasn't whether Hamilton would run fast; it was just how fast. His answer came quickly. Hamilton exploded down the curve and powered through the straightaway to win the race in 19.90.

While the mark came with wind assistance above the allowable +2.0 limit, preventing it from counting for record purposes, the performance still ranks among the most impressive in high school history. Under all conditions, Hamilton's 19.90 places him second all-time among high school athletes, trailing only Erriyon Knighton's historic 19.84 run in 2022 while at Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Florida.

With a historic February mark, a strong showing in the 100 meters, and now a sub-20 performance against one of the best sprint fields in the country, Hamilton has firmly established himself as one of the most dangerous sprinters in the nation. As the UIL championship season approaches, the Katy Tompkins senior appears poised to turn his explosive start into a legitimate run at state titles.
