Sang wins title at Baylor

WACO – ACU senior Amos Sang got his final cross country season off to a good start Friday night as both the men's and women's teams got off to promising starts at the Baylor Bear Twilight Invitational.

Sang's win – along with a third-place finish from Cleophas Tanui – propelled the ACU men's team to a second-place finish at the Baylor Intramural Fields.  The Wiildcats scored 50 points to finish behind only Baylor, which won the men's team championship with 29 points.

On the women's side, the Wildcats – who struggled through a sub-par 2009 season – posted a respectable fifth-place finish in the 11-team field.  ACU scored 160 points for a fifth-place finish behind Baylor ( 22 points), TCU (43 points), SMU (58 points), and Texas State (136 points).

Sang covered the 6-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 18.5 seconds to win comfortably over Baylor's Robbie Knorr, who was second in 18:37.4.  Tanui finished third in 18:43.9, just ahead of Baylor Jeff Sadler, who was fourth in 18:49.8.

ACU's other top-five finishers were Romain Rybicki (seventh in 19:10.0), Will Pike (14th in 19:33.2) and Will Mack (25th in 20:08.3).

On the women's side, Anais Belledant led all Wildcats with a 20th-place finish, covering the 4-kilometer course in 15:15.9.  Chloe Susset was 24th in 15:25.0, while Oklahoma State transfer Alyse Goldsmith was 25th in 15:26.4.

Freshman Sally Hays was 39th in 16:15.5 and freshman Greta Porisch was 52nd in 17:04.2.

The ACU men's team will be back in action this weekend at the Central Missouri Mule Run in Warrensburg, Mo.
