Sophomores Stepping Up to Start the Season
Woitena, Minaar, Olschewsky, and Sadler are all pushing their marks to new levels
The 2026 outdoor season (the weather, too) is heating up in Texas and four sophomores have already made their presence felt on the state leaderboards. Teegan Woitena is clearing heights in the pole vault he has never touched before. Ruan Minaar has dropped time in the 110m hurdles at nearly every meet he has entered. Morgan Olschewsky has been winning hurdle races and posting PRs across three events. Saniah Sadler ran her fastest 100m and 200m of her career on the same day last week. All four are Class of 2028 athletes, and all four are trending in the same direction.
BOYS
Woitena opened his 2026 outdoor season at 13-6 on Feb. 6, then cleared 14-6 twice before going 15-6 at the CCISD Ruben C Jordan Relays on Mar. 20. But the PR train wasn't slowing down. He then cleared 16-3 at the Trojan Relays on Mar. 27, finishing second at the meet. The mark ties him 6th in the state overall and second among Texas sophomores in the event. His outdoor best from last season was 14-6. He also ran 50.33 in the 400m at the 76th Annual Gulf Coast Relays on Mar. 5 and 22.46 in the 200m at the Dobie Longhorn Relays on Feb. 26.
Minaar's progression in the 110m hurdles this season has been consistent. He opened at 15.66 on Feb. 13, ran 15.16 at the Argyle Invitational on Feb. 19, then 14.89 at the Southlake Carroll Invitational on Feb. 26, then 14.92 to win the Eagle Mountain HS Relays on Mar. 12, before running his current PR of 14.50 at the Dave Park Invitational on Mar. 26. His 2025 best was 15.24. The 14.50 ties him 69th in the state overall and ninth among Texas sophomores in the event. He also ran 41.39 in the 300m hurdles at the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays on Mar. 27.
GIRLS
Olschewsky has been dropping time in the 100m hurdles at nearly every meet this season. She opened at 14.94 at the Allen Eagle Relays on Feb. 20, ran 14.48 at the Plano ISD Ron McNeill Invitational on Feb. 28, 14.75 to win the Coppell Cowboys Relays on Mar. 5, then 14.63 to win the Rock Hill Relays on Mar. 12, before a PR of 14.09 to win the Guyer Wildcat Relays on Mar. 26. She also ran 42.95 in the 300m hurdles to win the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays on Mar. 27 and 56.95 in the 400m to win the Coppell Cowboys Relays on Mar. 5. She sits fifth among Texas sophomores in the 100m hurdles and is tied at 23rd in the state overall. Her background includes competing at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in 2024 in the 400m hurdles, high jump, and triple jump.
Sadler has been chipping away at her 100m best all season. She opened at 12.57 at the Charger Relays on Feb. 20, then ran 12.10 at the CFISD Damani Gibson Memorial Relays on Feb. 27, then 11.97 in prelims at the Texas A&M Bluebonnet High School Invitational on Mar. 6, before posting a PR of 11.70 to finish second at the Mustang Relays on Mar. 27. She also ran a PR of 24.73 in the 200m at the same meet. Her 2025 best in the 100m was 12.51. She now sits 10th among Texas sophomores in the 100m and tied 41st in the state overall.
