Led by Alyssa Dooley, who placed ninth individually among team point scorers, Sam Houston State finished second to Rice in the team competition at the Puma Houston Baptist cross country meet Friday evening in Houston.
Dooley ran the 4,000 meter race in 13:53. Other Sam Houston finishes included Molly Farrell 11th with a time of 14:57; Victoria Gemeny 13th 15:03; Sara Collazos 15th 15:06, Crystal Santos 20th 15:34 and Kim Brooks 26th 16:23.
Rice totaled 15 points to win the women's race. Sam Houston was second with 70 points followed by Houston Baptist 73, Baylor 87, Texas Lutheran 139 and Texas Southern 172.
The Rice Owls also won the men's 5,000 meter race, racking up a score of 34 point. Houston Baptist was the men's runner-up with 52 points followed by Northwood 66, Sam Houston 105, Prairie View A&M 133 and Texas Southern 142.
Patrick Krol (16:13), Patrick Pitts (16:15) and Travis Kocurek (16:29) led Sam Houston finishing 16th, 17th and 19th respectively. Ryan Saam was 23rd with a time of 16:36 and Clint Anders placed 30th with a 17:06 clocking.
