17 Wildcats voted all-region


NEW ORLEANS – Twelve ACU men's track and field athletes and five ACU women's track and field athletes have earned all-region honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association.

The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the all-region distinction for the 2011 outdoor season.  A total of 1,250 athletes receive 1,838 all-region nods in the inaugural outdoor class.

On the men's side, senior distance standout Amos Sang earned all-region honors in four events (800 meters, 1500 meters, 5000 meters and 10,000 meters), while senior sprinter Desmond Jackson earned all-region honors in three events (100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100 relay).  Other multi-event all-region Wildcats are Nick Jones (shot put and discus), Andrew McDowell (110 hurdles and 4x100 relay) and Lavance Williams (long jump and 4x100 relay).

Other Wildcat all-region performers are Tyler fleet (hammer), Jordan Geary (400 meters), Kevin Johnson (110 hurdles), Timothy Jones (triple jump), Paris Robertson (4x100 relay), and Romain Rybicki (1500 meters).

On the women's side, all five  Wildcats earned all-region honors in just one event, a group led by triple jumper Amanda Ouedraogo.  Defending national champion Paige Newby is all-region in the discus, while Anais Belledant (1500 meters), Alyse Goldsmith (5000 meters) and Chloe Susset (3000 steeplechase) all earned all-region honors.
